Dreams In Color – Manarola

Manarola, Cinque Terre is simply stunning any time of day but when the sky turns shades of pink, it’s out of this world. It’s at those times that the color sings. (Or maybe that was the wine talking)

I know that I’ve been releasing a lot of photos from Italy lately but I just can’t help it. I’ve said this before but Cinque Terre is my photographic happy place. Since I’ve been a little down with a virus over the last week (some really strange Chinese cough thing) , I’ve been using some of these italian photos to lift my spirits.

Post-processing Before and After

This photo is a blend of two exposures 0 & -1, with a tiny tiny bit of tone mapping thrown into the mix. After that I applied a few simple color and contrast adjustments. Nature provided me with such a great base that I really didn’t need to do much. It’s always nice when that happens. :)

Questions are always welcome.

  1. Hey there :)
I have been following your work for awhile and it is due to the fact that I think your style of HDR is the best that I have seen. You have such a great balance between reality and un-reality. I’ve gone through your tutorials time and time again with my own work, an my results have improved quite a bit I think, but I was just wondering if you would be able to record a video tutorial, for each step of the process, just so we can see real time the changes you make and why you make them.
    Thanks for your time :)

    • Hi Pat,

Thanks for the compliment! I have some more training materials that are in the works. I can’t give you an exact date but hopefully I can finish and release some of it soon. :)

  2. Hi,

I can’t believe I haven’t seen your site before, I have recently fell back in love with photography and the natural HDR look. Your work is an beautiful and I will be following your adventure every day. If you ever make it to Scotland the coffee is on me.

    All the best Mark

  3. I think Italy just moved higher on my need to visit and photograph list. Get to feeling better Elia!

  4. Great images and comentary on this beautiful region of Itsly; my favorite..
See my travel log of my trip to Italy including Cinque Terre. Not processed as are your images but memorable sites using my Cannon G7, a handy size when my
    5DII is deemed too heavy.
I look forward to learning more of your HDR techniques in the future.

I am so excited to see this as we will be traveling to Italy, with Lucca our home base. My first trip to Italy, to Europe. Thrilled!!! My desire is come home with at least 1 or 2 fantastic shots that are worthy of hanging, that will match some the magical moments I take in. Thank you for sharing your Italy. I am novice at this kind of travel. Information regarding what gear to take will be so appreciated.
